This collection, sourced from the archives of the National Research Council of Canada, compiles some of the articles written by James Swail, a scientist with the Radio and Electrical Engineering Division of the NRC from 1947-1985. He himself was blind and throughout his career, Swail dedicated himself to developing assistive devices for the technical training and scientific education of people who were blind or partially sighted in order to improve their chances of employability and social integration. He developed numerous assistive instruments ranging from laboratory equipment and mobility devices to punch card readers for computer programmers.
